Grow Your Child's Love Of Learning

The love of learning is innate in all children. As adults, we should exploit this wonderful quality in them and help them strive towards becoming joyful learners – children who are not only curious and active in finding out about the world they live in, but also humble in sharing with and learning from others.

What Learning Constitutes

Every child is a social being, no matter how protected his environment may be. So learning is much more than academic performance. It is also about developing the right values in life and forming good relationships with others.

As parents, we have a major responsibility in helping our youngsters learn and develop in a holistic manner.

Fuelling Your Child's Learning Passion

  • Learn Together With Him

Children learn best through meaningful interaction with other people. Read with your child and talk about his daily life: the things and people around him, hobbies, current events, school, etc. Model your own interest in learning and share your experiences, views and ideas with him at every opportunity.

  • Know His Learning Style

We all learn in different ways and at different paces, so find out your child's learning style. For example, if he is more of a visual learner, you may need to use drawings and diagrams to entice him. Then, for more effective and effcient understanding , gradally introduce other styles such as 'hands-on' or learning by association.

  • Partner With His School

Children whose parents are in close partnership with their schools are happier and more contented learners. Find out about your child's academic progress and behaviour in school from his teachers. Discuss or exchange ideas with them for enhancing his learning environment.

  • Set Realistic Goals And Expectations

Nobody is perfect. It is unfair and certainly uninspiring for your child to have to keep up with your standards. Keep in mind his individual nature, learning style and pace, so that you will select age-appropriate books, activities, hobbies and courses for him.

  • Keep Him Healthy

Needless to say, good health is necessary for optimal learning. It also means fewer absences from school, plus a happier and more positive state of mind. Ensure that he eats a wellbalanced diet, exercises regularly and gets enough rest.
