"My family might seem typical on the outside but life hasn't always been easy for us. My mother was diagnosed with crippling arthritis 10 years ago and my father's diabetes reached a critical stage last year. My dad lost his job in 2005 and my mother had to downgrade to a lower paying job because of her illness. We were hard hit then with so much pay. We barely had enough to eat on some days. Through the years, however, my parents have ensured that my brother and I studied hard and enjoyed a good life. Despite our ups and downs, we try to take short trips overseas once every few years. I thank God everyday for helping us stick together as a family and giving us enough to live a happy life. Friends come and go, but family; they stay."

"My eldest son was taken care of by my mother and though they're both busy leading their own lives today, they still take the time to share their joy and sadness with each other. My second son was taken care of by my ex-domestic helper from India. She never fails to remember his birthday every year. As my second son was sick often, she always had to sacrifice her sleep to look after him at night. My youngest son is a joy to the family. Daddy is busy with work but never fails to care for his children and often brings them for holidays overseas."

"My grandfather was diagnosed with prostate cancer ten years ago. His condition stabilised after an operation and he was very active. However, there was a sudden change of condition last year. He felt unwell and was admitted to NUH regularly. Initially, he did not want to be admitted as he did not want to impose a financial burden on me. But I couldn't let him suffer in silence. As such, I took him to the hospital countless times. Today, he is being taken care of by a nurse from the hospice. She is very helpful and goes all out to help my grandfather."
