More than 600 eager parents gathered at the Fairmont on 5 June 2010 to attend MediaCorp TV’s “Your Amazing Toddler – Positive Parenting Congress 2010”.
It was an informative afternoon for all who attended as 4 key speakers shared their expertise on various topics of interest. The first speaker for the day, Mr Kenny Toh, Board Member of I Love Children and Founder of the Institute of Advanced Parentology, started off the event by sharing about the new rules for raising new generation kids in this modern day and age with advanced technologies and increased globalisation.
This was followed by Ms Anna Jacob, Nutritionist and Dietitian from Abbott Nutrition International, who spoke about the foods that bring out the best in children. Ms Jacob educated on what constituted a nutritious diet starting from birth, to when children start to wean and also as toddlers. She explained that a good balance of the different food groups was key.
One of the key highlights of the afternoon was the topic by renowned doctor, Dr Nancy Tan, Paediatrician – Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition from SBCC Baby and Child Clinic in Gleneagles Medical Centre. Dr Tan spoke about the prevalence and consequences of children experiencing feeding difficulties. She also highlighted the different types of feeding difficulties children could face and shared with parents tips on how they can manage their little picky eaters.
Ms Frances Yeo, Principal Psychologist at Thomson Paediatric Centre (Child Development), continued the forum by helping parents to understand the “Terrible twos” and what they could do to help them cope.
To end off the day, celebrity parents and FLY Entertainment Artistes Wong Li Lin and Allan Wu shared their experiences, challenges and tips on raising their kids. Li Lin and Allan also raised up their pledge fans and led a pledge for parents to try to have at least a meal a day with their children. This pledge is part of the Singapore Family Pledge Movement by the National Family Council.
