What Do You Feed Your Child When He Falls Sick? – Results

In the last issue of Family Ties, we asked readers to participate in a "What do you feed your child when he falls sick" survey. Here are some key results to share from the survey.

When asked to comment on the findings, our Nutrition Science Manager, Anna Jacob shares that during illness, children require more calories, protein, fluid and other nutrients than usual to help the body recover.

Ms. Jacob adds, "Most children have poor appetite during this period. As parents, pay particular attention to the food and beverage choices you provide. While traditional choices like porridge, rice with soup and regular fresh milk do provide fluid; they are not energy and nutrient dense. Work toward enhancing the food and beverages that your child will accept at this time."

She also suggested some ways to improve the nutrient density of foods to feed their sick children. "Add minced vegetables and meat to the porridge and soup.
