You Speak, "How Did Your Child Get Started On Solids?"

At about 6 months, I started off with giving bottled fruit purees and rice cereal. My baby did not take off with solids immediately. I stopped for a while and tried again at about 8 months. This time, she took to solids slowly and by 9 months, we fed her porridge as my family is a little more traditional with regards to feeding solids to babies. Since then, she is on 2 meals of solids daily and uncountable servings of milk!

I started feeding my baby Ryan solid food when he was 7 months old. I started with mashed pumpkin, potato, sweet potato and carrot twice a day with porridge and one serving of apple or pear juice between meals. He is now 8 months and still enjoys his 'first' food.

At 6 months, we introduced my son Brian to vegetables (i.e. carrots) and fruits (i.e. pears and bananas). All types of new food are given in small quantities and repeated for 2 to 3 days to check if there's any form of allergy. We also feed him in pureed form to prevent choking. Observe your baby's "likes and dislikes" through feeding to create food varieties for him/her!

First, wash, dry and grind rice grains. Take 2 teaspoons of rice powder, add water and steam. Then introduce food such as broccoli, carrot, corn, potato, sweet potato, pumpkin and other vegetables. An electric grinder makes job a lot easier! I also grind small anchovies if I'm not giving 'sweet' vegetables. My baby is now adjusting well to solids after about 3 weeks.

My daughter started off with milk cereal after 6 1/2 months of breastmilk. After 1 week, we started her on porridge cooked with potatoes, carrots, broccoli, pork, threadfin fish and chicken, in rotation. We did not blend the food as she was able to adjust to solids quickly.
