GRAND PRIZE WINNERS

This was taken with my mum on my 8th birthday celebration on 1st December 2008.
My mother is very beautiful and loving person, and I would like to describe her in a poem:

"M" is for the mighty Mother you have always been
"O" means One and Only one best mum on earth to me
"T" is for the Time you spend with me
"H" is for her Happiness you gave me by praising me for all the good I have done so far
"E" is for Ears to listen patiently to jokes and stories of my experiences in school and with my friends and to all mischief I have done in school
"R" means Religious and GOD fearing, narrating mythological stories to groom me better

Put them all together, they spell "MOTHER", a word that means the world to me. I love you more every day! Thank you GOD for giving me such a lovely mother!

To be a mother is not an easy task
Yet you do it proudly everyday no matter what is asked
You have turned your baby into a beautiful young lady
You were there for me since the very beginning and saved me countless tears
The pushy and wise advice you gave will carry me through the years
You put no limits on my dreams or anything else I wished to do
The smile and tears upon your face when I've achieved, affects my heart more than you'd ever believe
No other person could have shaped my life the way you've done
Your job finished perfectly for your precious daughters and son
We have had a rocky road through triumphs and catastrophies, hard times and despair
But not a single moment of time you were not there.
I have my whole future ahead of me; you are the woman who has led and guided me towards the proper path.
How can one simple day prove that much thanks and love to someone who has pushed this far and still is working her way?
No other person deserves a more wonderful Mother's Day.

CONSOLATION PRIZE WINNERS

My mother is the best thing that ever happened in my life. Her relentless love and forgiving nature always touches my heart. She knows me well and always shows her concern for me. She has been my greatest support at my most difficult period - my first maternity confinement. Regardless of her state of health, she never complained and would still make sure that we are well fed and looked after. She is easily contented and thrilled at our slightest effort for her, such as buying her a simple snack. Having her as my mum had taught me the love, sacrifice, and effort of being a mother - now I am also a mother of two. She has also been my greatest role model in my life.

I only realised how much my mum means to me when she suddenly suffered a stroke last December. Thoughts of losing her struck my mind like lightning across the sky. In life, we always hope for the best but fear for the worst. She has always been the pillar of strength of my family and gives more than 100 percent, never expecting any return. That's the greatness of motherhood! Fortunately, my mum recovered and is now recuperating at home. However, life is never the same again. Her limited mobility prohibits her from her usual active lifestyle and her temper flares quickly these days. However we appreciate her wholeheartedly for her sacrifices over the years. Without her, there will be no tomorrow for our family. What she needed most is our tender care and concern, understanding and pampering.

In dedication to my beloved mum, I love you and thanks for being there for me always! No matter what happens, you mean the whole world to me!

This photo was taken most recently at lunch with mum only, to acknowledge for her contributions to all of us these years...Love u MUM!
My mum... she is One Radical Mum. She's excellent, inspiring and admirable. Ever since she divorced our dad more than 20 years ago, she has been raising us 5 siblings single-handedly, without any complaints, working day and night to make ends meet, and raising each of us to be a better person. She also reminded us time and again not to hate dad for what had happened, and don't look back; Always look towards a better future and always be content with what we have.

Now being a mum myself, I truly understand what she has gone through, and really appreciate what she have done for us all this years. Thanks MUM! You are truly our Inspiration!!

When we were little, my mum worked hard to earn a living. She would start work at 10am, and only ends at 3am. After years of working, my parents had looked forward to retirement and spend time with their grandchildren. Alas, my dad was diagnosed with liver cancer. Instead of complaining, my mom helped look after my dad. She accompanied him to all his appointments, and cooked all his favourite food. All this while, my mom also helped me look after my 3-year-daughter and 3-month-old son. When my dad finally died, she was my pillar of strength. After the burial, I asked my mum to move in with us; I didn't want her to be alone in the big, empty flat.
I know that my mom loves us even though she does not freely express her feelings. I thank God for my mum.

This picture was our first family portrait after my child LeeAnn's birth on 12 March 2009.
My mother is the glue that helped piece my life's struggles and triumphs together, directly contributing to my growth as a girl, a woman, and finally a parent. I often count my blessings to have a mum who nurtures and makes unconditional sacrifices for me. She's the best thing a daughter could ever have in her life.

I am very grateful that my mother is in my life. Now I've become one, I felt the labour pains she went through as she delivered me, the sacrifices she made as she raised me, the pain I gave her during my teenage years, the tears she wasted on me back then, but she still stood by me and showered me with her love. As I grew older, I realised with sadness and regret how silly I'd been, and cried at the thought of losing her. She is very precious to me, and I tell her now everyday without fail that I love her. I could never imagine what my life would be without feeling her love and strength throughout my growing years. Now is the time for me to make sacrifices for her, but nothing in the world could match up to what she has done for me.
I love you mummy.

My mum seldom appears in photographs; this is one of the rare photos I have of her, after my graduation from secondary school back in 1997. So, this photo is real precious to me.
This tribute is especially dedicated to my mum Madam Lau Lai Leng.

Dear Mum,

I never understood your love to me until I had kids of my own. I've never appreciated the fact that you travelled 7 - 8 hours from Ipoh to Singapore to take care of me and your newborn grandson.
But the incident that filled me with regret was the conversation with you over the phone that night; you kept news of your illness from me - you just said you were tired and needed to rest. I didn't realise that it was a warning sign of a heart attack (I noticed your feet had swelled suddenly, and you were experiencing shortness of breath, but it did not cross my mind to bring you to the doctor).
Mum, I can't quantify my endless love for you. I just wish that it is not too late for me to say it here: "Mummy, I Love You"

Chung Wai Yoke

Mother's Name: Lau Lai Leng
Mother's Age: 65

My mum has worked very hard for her family since we were young, ensuring her children partakes of the freshest food available. With my recent birth, she has been visiting me daily, rain or shine for two months, making sure my newborn and I are on nutritious diets, and stocking my house with freshest food supplies. She also looks after the rest of the household by bathing and taking care of my baby, as well as fetch my school-going son to and from school - All this at the age of seventy!

Yet she has no qualms about offering help as long as her own daughter's in need of it. I was really touched by all the things she had done for me, and finally understand what true and unconditional love is. I've never treasured her or appreciated what she has done for me in the past until recently. I'll treasure the moments we have with her from now on, and not be taking her for granted.

This photograph was taken when we were taking the Singapore Flyer ride. I was very happy so I asked Papa to take a picture for me, my mum and sis.
My mummy always cooks my favourite food for me to eat, and accompanies me wherever I go, especially to enrichment classes, where she waits for me till class ends. I love my mummy very much.

I am singing a song to my mother, wishing her a HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
My mother gives me GROW. My mother says it is good for me. I know she loves me. She gives me 2 cups a day. She says I will GROW as tall as the giraffe. Very funny but i like it. I love you mum. You are the best.

HONOURABLE MENTION

What makes a mum special?
  • She loves you to bits
  • She cooks you chicken soup when you are tired and chrysanthemum tea when you are ill
  • She drives you places when you have not gotten your driving licence (including places like Zouk)
  • She checks in on you when you are ill
  • She goes on a diet and exercises with you when you feel 'out of shape'
  • She pigs out with you when you 'just feel like it'
  • She nurses your broken heart and cries with you
These are just a few of the wonderful things my mum has done for me. She is not only my mum but my friend (well.. she is only lacking a Facebook account!). She is someone I can count on no matter what.

Anyone can be a mother but not anyone can be mine.

Here's to you mum! Happy Mother's Day!

Loads of love
