A site dedication ceremony was held on April 21, 2006 for the new 16 hectare facility.

"The plant is a culmination of years of planning. Asia is one of the fastest growing markets for Abbott's nutrition business and in order to meet the increasing needs of consumers, we recognized that we had to begin manufacturing in the region," said John Ginascol, Divisional Vice President, Global Supply Chain, Abbott Nutrition International, at the site dedication ceremony.

"This investment is in line with our commitment to advancing the quality of life, and improving the health and well-being of the people in the markets we serve. It's an investment that couldn't have come sooner. The global paediatric market is worth an estimated S$20.6 billion (US$13 billion), with the Asian region contributing to a third of this demand. Already, Asia is the fastest growing market in the world for infant nutritionals, with a projected compound annual growth rate of eight per cent over the next five years, a figure that far surpasses that of the US and Europe. Come 2010, the Asian market will constitute more than 40 per cent of the global demand for infant nutritional products."

Guests at the site dedication ceremony included Guest-of-Honour Mr Lim Hng Kiang, Minister for Trade and Industry; Her Excellency Patricia Herbold, U.S. Ambassador to Singapore; and Mr. Philip Yeo, Chairman of Agency for Science Technology and Research (A*STAR).

"We are very pleased to welcome Abbott into the growing cluster of biomedical sciences manufacturers," said Mr Lim. "Singapore is now home to eight leading global pharmaceutical companies who collectively own and operate twenty manufacturing plants here. With Singapore's strategic location at the heart of Asia, this new facility will provide Abbott with an advantageous position to broaden its reach into the fast-growing Asian market."
