February is the month of Love… so love your heart

The of February, 2009 was Wear Red Day, an initiative by the Singapore Heart Foundation as that was part of the annual Go Red For Women campaign - heart health amongst Singaporean women. Few people are aware that:

  1. Heart disease and stroke are the killers of women in Singapore.
  2. Post-menopausal women are as likely as men to suffer heart attacks.
  3. Women are more likely than men to die from heart diseases.
  4. Women suffering heart attacks have less detectable symptoms than men.

Research shows that only one Singaporean woman in twelve understands the dangers of heart disease, which helps explain why for every three Singaporean men who seek corrective treatment for heart-related diseases, only one woman does so.

One of the day's pervasive themes was how to make wiser, healthier choices - in areas ranging from activities to diet. Red reminders were distributed throughout the day about quick and easy lifestyle changes that can make a positive difference in allaying heart disease.

In conjunction with Wear Red Day, the Singapore Heart Foundation launched a new pledge program to encourage people to give up one bad habit for their heart's sake and replace it with a more beneficial one. Ensure Life supports Singapore Heart Foundation's pledge program to improve heart health by offering pledge-makers a delicious option in their choice of nutrition.
