Blood Donation CampaignAs part of Abbott Singapore's community outreach effort, Abbott Manufacturing Singapore (AMS) worked together with the Singapore Health Science Authority (HSA) to organise a two-day Blood Donation Mobile Drive in June 2009. They also hosted three Vietnamese guests Vietnam who were studying blood drive organization. The volunteers set up a multi-function room with tables, chairs, beds and health monitoring equipment. Donors queued for registration and then moved from one station to the next, getting a general health check before donating blood. Each donor spent some 30 minutes completing the donation and then rested for ten minutes before taking some refreshment. The response from this blood was very encouraging, with 95% success rate and 76 units of blood collected for Singapore hospitals. Every hour of the day, 15 units of blood are used in Singapore for every hour of the day. Hence, at least 350 units a day, or a whopping 90,000 units are needed in a year just to meet the transfusion needs of patients in Singapore.
