Blood Donation Drive 2010

For a second year in a row, Abbott Manufacturing Singapore (AMS) worked with the Health Science Authority (HSA) to organise a Blood Donation Mobile Drive. The event was held over a two-day period from 8th to 9th July. A doctor and nurses from the HSA set up the necessary equipment at AMS for the blood donation.

Every AMS volunteer was evaluated by the healthcare professionals on-site through a questionnaire and health checks before qualifying to be a blood donor. The entire process of donation took forty-five minutes. A period of rest and refreshment followed to ensure that each volunteer recuperated well.

Blood donors then went on to participate in the “Beary Good Cause” Workshop to make a ‘hand-crafted bear’ souvenir for their kind deed. Donors stuffed polyester beads into an empty ‘bear skin’ and placed a heart in the bear’s chest, symbolising the ‘Give Blood, Save Life’ campaign.

A total of 99 AMS employees participated in the blood donation drive and 82 packets of blood were collected successfully, exceeding last year’s record of 76 packets. Response from employees and HSA this year was tremendously positive, and plans have been made to conduct annual blood donation drives.
