1,000 kids from low income families to receive free milk for up to half a year!
Singapore, February 18, 2010 – Abbott and South West Community Development Council (CDC) jointly announced today the start of their "Grow, Glow & Go" Programme. The six-month programme will provide all 1,000 needy kindergarten children currently under the CDC's Kindergarten Financial Assistance Scheme (KiFAS) with free supply of growing-up formula milk from Abbott worth over $100,000. This will help these children continue with healthy and nutritious diet throughout their childhood.
In addition, this collaboration between Abbott and South West Community Development Council (CDC) aims to educate the parents of these children on the importance of nutrition during their children’s early development years and to encourage them to continue providing growing up milk for their children daily.
"Children require the right nutritional balance to thrive physically and mentally. It is thus important that parents and/or caregivers provide children with a balanced diet to ensure healthy growth. Some low-income families facing financial difficulties may need help to ensure that their children eat healthily. Abbott's sponsorship of milk powder for growing kindergarten children from needy families will go some way in helping these children get the necessary nutrition," shared Dr Amy Khor.
Ms. Hui Hwa Koh-Minjoot, General Manager, Abbott Nutrition, said, "Abbott Nutrition has been dedicated to the development of quality milk products for more than a century to meet the nutritional needs of children around the world. In particular, pre-school children aged three to six are experiencing rapid growth and require good nutrition to support overall mental and physical development. Therefore, we are pleased to donate GROW®, a leading growing-up milk, to support this worthy cause of helping to nourish and strengthen children from low-income families in the South West district."
Mdm Maslinda Bte Ahad, whose son is one of our milk recipients shared, "With this programme, it has taught me that my child needs the necessary nutrients to help his mental and physical development through his growing years. I understand the importance of milk and I will try to include it into my son's diet."
