If you don't feel like traveling far this holiday, why not look to the fun venues we have locally that both you and your kids can enjoy? Here are some suggestions from members of the Abbott Family:

Singapore Zoological Gardens

A perennial favourite, the Singapore Zoo is always a great place for kids to visit the animals they love most, have a laugh at the animal shows such as the Splash Safari Show or have a splashing good time at the water play area in Rainforest Kidzworld. For an extraordinary time, go earlier to enjoy a jungle breakfast with wildlife such as the friendly orangutans or stay later so you can hop next door to the world's only Night Safari.

Located at: 80 Mandai Lake Road
Opening hours: 8.30am to 6.00pm
(The Night Safari is open from 7.30pm to 12.00am.)

Jacob Ballas Garden

This is Asia's first children's garden and a fun place where your kids can learn more about plants through play and exploration. Kids can view the 11 heritage trees in the garden or join the various tours available to discover more about the role of plants in their daily lives. Try exploring the maze, suspension bridge, tree house and secret cave for more happy memories!

Located at: Singapore Botanic Gardens (Bukit Timah end)
Opening hours: 8.00am to 7.00pm
(except on Mondays that are not Public Holidays)

Marina Barrage

This is Singapore's 15th reservoir and the first located in the heart of the city. Bring your kids for a stroll on the dam to view the massive engineering equipment and make sure to stop and admire the beautiful view of the city skyline from the green roof. To make the trip even more educational, visit the Sustainable Singapore Gallery so your kids can learn the history behind Singapore's efforts to keep the environment sustainable.

Located at: 8 Marina Gardens Drive
(You can try catching the shuttle bus from Marina Bay MRT.)
Opening hours: All day

Jurong Bird Park

Visit the world's largest free flight aviary and catch exotic birds from all over the world gliding freely around you. Your kids can get even closer to the action by having the chance to feed the birds (visit the two-tiered central feeding tower at the Lory Loft to have the chance to feed the lories a special nectar mixture) or by attending one of the many bird shows available (majestic eagles, hawks and falcons will swoop and soar around you during the Birds of Prey show).

Located at: 2 Jurong Hill
Opening hours: 8.30am to 6.00pm

Mini Golf - Lilliputt

Do you believe your child is the next Tiger Woods? Let him try his skill at miniature golf! A good place to visit is Lilliputt, an indoor 18 hole miniature golf course where your kid can have fun fine-tuning his talent around famous landmarks in Singapore such as the Esplanade and Sentosa. He will be additionally thrilled by the sound effects and watching their golf ball "ride" a cable car from Mount Faber!

Located at: Playground @ Big Splash
Opening hours: 10.00am to 8.00pm (Tuesday to Sunday)
(Special note: Please remember to bring along socks!)

When you are out and about, do remember to ensure your child still gets the proper nutrition he needs to keep up his energy levels. Bring along a bottle of PediaSure Liquid for your child to provide him with a complete and balanced snack in a convenient format.
