More than 900 eager mummies and daddies gathered at the Fairmont on 16 January 2011 to attend the annual “First Mums’ and Dads’ Congress 2011”.
It was an informative afternoon for all who attended as 4 key speakers shared their expertise on various topics of interest. The first speaker for the day, Dr Chang Tou Choong, Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, W C Cheng & Associates, Thomson Medical Centre, started off the event by sharing tips with mummies and daddies-to-be on how to have a healthy baby.
This was followed by Dr Larry Williams, Paediatrician & Senior Medical Director from Abbott Nutrition, who spoke about nutrients your child needs. Dr Williams shared that it takes a combination of multiple nutrients in the right quantities to support optimal growth in children, not just a single nutrient at high quantities.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was the topic by Mrs Wong Boh Boi, Assistant Director (Clinical) & Senior ParentCraft / Lactation Consultant, Thomson ParentCraft Centre, Thomson Medical Centre. Mrs Wong shared her tips and expertise on how to be able to breastfeed successfully as breast milk is the best food for babies.
Dr Ng Koon Hock, Consultant Psychiatrist, Child, Adolescent & Family Psychiatry, Thomson Paediatric Centre, Thomson Medical Centre, helped parents to understand the importance of emotional wellbeing and its impact on a child’s development.
To end off the day, celebrity mum & MediaCorp Artiste, Zoe Tay, and celebrity dad, Mark Lee, shared their experiences, challenges and tips on pregnancy, breastfeeding and bringing up their babies. For the first time ever, Zoe also launched her self-designed Similac Mummy Tote Bag and Gain Baby Rompers.
As the evening drew to a close, parents went home pleased and equipped with Similac goodie bags, great deals from the event and new ideas on being a great first time parent.
